Missions – The committee is focused on providing mission education to our parishioners through various means including the mission bulletin board, articles submitted in the parish monthly newsletter; presentations of short term mission trips taken by parishioners, hosted a visiting missionary and distribution of OCMC materials and brochures.
The committee currently is supporting two mission priests through the Support a Mission Priest (SAMP) program:
Father Anastasios Akunda- Uganda
Father Alexios Inyagwa- Chevogere, Kenya
In 2002 a mission team from the Cathedral participated in building the new school in Chevogere and plans are being made to purchase equipment for the new school under the direction of Father Alexios. In 2003 a missions visit to the Hogar Rafael Orphanage in Guatomola was supported by the parish.
Another project being considered is the St. Nekarios Fund, a fund established by Deacon Evan in Colorado to assist students with school tuition in countries where government subsidy does not exist; this program will establish a link from our Sunday school children to the students in Chevogere, Kenya.
