Philoptochos, Friends of the Poor is an organization of Orthodox Christian women dedicated to providing service and assistance to both individuals and groups in need. Much of the philanthropic and benevolent work associated with the Greek Orthodox Church.

Philoptochos Activities

Campus Ministries:Philoptochos members prepare meals for the Orthodox students at Johns Hopkins University on the second Thursday of the month.

Loaves and FishesPhiloptochos funded meal preparation donated to the Franciscan Center. Food preparations take place on Saturdays in the kitchen.  We welcome any help as well as cooked penne or rigatoni pasta.

Student/Military Easter Boxes: Members prepare Easter remembrance boxes for our parish’s college students and military personnel who are away from home.

The Baltimore Station:  This organization provides therapeutic residential treatment programs supporting veterans and others who are transitioning through the cycle of poverty, addiction, and homelessness to self sufficiency.  We are collecting items including sweatshirts and sweatpants (XXL and larger), towels (all sizes), twin sheet sets, coffee, coffee cups, flatware, men’s toiletries, underwear, socks, hats, gloves through  Pascha.  Items can be left in the green bins opposite the office.  Thank you for your support in this endeavor.

4 May general meeting, 1 p.m. at the Olive Grove, 705 Hammonds Ferry Road, Linthicum, MD 21090.  Reservations may be made through Jo Gafos (gafos@comcast.net) or Kathe Apesos Poulos (kapesospoulos@comcast.net).  Cost is $35 per person.
7 Board meeting, 6:30 p.m.

10 Loaves and Fishes.  We welcome any help as well as cooked penne or rigatoni pasta. 10 a.m.
11 Graduate Sunday.  Scholarships are awarded.  Mother’s Day
11 Annual Mother’s Day Tea, 1-4pm at St. Nicholas Social Hall (520 S. Ponca Street). Please join the Ladies Philoptochos of St. Nicholas for an afternoon of entertainment, refreshments and desserts. A donation of $5 is suggested.
