Philoptochos, Friends of the Poor is an organization of Orthodox Christian women dedicated to providing service and assistance to both individuals and groups in need. Much of the philanthropic and benevolent work associated with the Greek Orthodox Church.

Philoptochos Activities

Campus MinistriesPhiloptochos members prepare meals for the Orthodox students at Johns Hopkins University on the second Thursday of the month.

Loaves and FishesPhiloptochos funded meal preparation donated to the Franciscan Center. Food preparations take place on Saturdays in the kitchen.  We welcome any help as well as cooked penne or rigatoni pasta.

Student/Military Easter Boxes: Members prepare Easter remembrance boxes for our parish’s college students and military personnel who are away from home.

The Baltimore Station:  This organization provides therapeutic residential treatment programs supporting veterans and others who are transitioning through the cycle of poverty, addiction, and homelessness to self sufficiency.  We are collecting items including sweatshirts and sweatpants (XXL and larger), towels (all sizes), twin sheet sets, coffee, coffee cups, flatware, men’s toiletries, underwear, socks, hats, gloves through  Pascha.  Items can be left in the green bins opposite the office.  Thank you for your support in this endeavor.

Scholarship Application

This is the 2016 application for Philoptochos Scholarships, open to all members of the Annunciation Cathedral. Please note the application and all required records (i.e. transcript) must be received at the church office by April 25, 2016. No incomplete or late applications will be considered. Though this can be downloaded electronically we require all portions of  the application to be submitted on paper.  Click here to download the application.
